This is the article for my friend sent .
Biologically, men have more muscle power as compared to women. It is therefore believed that men have a higher metabolism rate than women. Muscles are important for metabolic health because they help to store the body’s glucose as glycogen. This glycogen is what is used as energy.
As a young boy, I used to be very active in sporting activities. Being active helped me because I was always fit and energetic. As I grew older, my level of physical activity lessened and this in turn resulted to adding fat and losing more and more muscle mass. At first, I thought that the weight gain was only because I had become unfit. But this was not at all the reason. My testosterone levels had become low and that is why I had gained weight. The weight gain was not the only physical issue that I had, but I also started to lose the desire for any sexual activity and I would get aroused but no erection. I talked to a friend about this and he advised me to go see a doctor. It is at the doctors’ office that I realized that I had erectile dysfunction. The doctor also said that I was lucky because if I had not come to the hospital, sooner or later I would have gotten a heart attack. He prescribed some medication but also advised that I should reduce my weight and exercise more often. I decided to sign up at a local gymnasium and that is how my process of getting cured form the disease started.
also known as impotence has for many years been thought to affect men of an older generation. This is just but a fallacy. This is because many studies show one in every four men who have attempted to find help for the same were young men under the age of 40; me included. Erectile dysfunction is an overall marker for how the cardiovascular system is functioning. Therefore, having erectile dysfunction is not just a psychological issue as has always been thought to be, but a physical issue in general. It is also important to note that erectile dysfunction is the first tell-tale sign of a serious health condition and a diagnosis can lead to saving a persons’ life.
Erectile dysfunction leads to both physical and mental effects. The physical effects are:
- Tapered blood vessels going to the penis which normally goes hand in hand with hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol.
- Hormonal issues.
The psychological effects are problems in relationships and depression.
When I was going through the healing process. This is because I realized that erectile dysfunction comes with so many issues that not many are aware of. From my story, it is important to note that being healthy is supposed to be our number one concern. From the many researches done, it has been established that men are more likely to lead unhealthier lives as compared to women. It is therefore important not to be part of the statistics but the exception.
